Keyword Research Tips: Targenting Money Keywords – Effective Way to Generating Greater Conversions
Whether you use PPC campaign or free SEO for your online business promotion, it is important that you target the most effective keywords for conversion. An intelligent keyword research play a vital role to this. This just means, you need to target those what we call ‘money keywords’.
What’s the deal? – you may ask. Well, the thing is, up to 90% of conversions are generated by these what we call money keywords ( this is based on my own conversion data but I believe this is too applicable for you). Of course other techniques like ‘call to action’ and ‘persuasion’ are included to this.
Money keywords are those being used by Internet users who search online with the prime intention to buy a product or subscribe for a certain service.
What are the criteria for a keyword to be recognized as a money keyword? Consider the following:
- Money keywords include ‘call-to-action’. Key phrases with words like ‘buy’, ‘cheap’, ’subscribe’, ’sale’, special offer’ and the like, convert more because internet users who use these in their online queries search through the internet with the intention to buy. In other words, a key phrase “for sale used car” has a greater chance to convert that ” used car info”.
- Money keywords have higher search volume but low in competition. Money keywords are those with substantial search volume but with low number of competing providers. Why substantial search? The thing is, even if a key phrase “for sale used car” is effective phrase to target ‘buyers’ it still may not convert well if there is no substantial search. In other words, there is no one searching for used car. And, of course, you have to consider the competition. An online query may have a search volume of 5000 but if there’s 5 million competing websites, still you have a slim chance for conversions. So use those keywords with substantial amount of search but with low competition. Check the Money Keyword Matrix from Niche Profit Classroom ( Using keyword tools is imperative to this).

- Money keywords are more specific. Money keywords are usually long-tailed. Why is this so? This is because long-tail-keywords are more targeted. A user who uses this is a person with a specific purpose in mind when searching. Thus, a key phrase ” buy Adidas Absolado PS FG J ” has a better chance of conversion than just “Adidas brand”.
- Money keywords ( in most cases) do not include words ‘ free’, ‘info’ and the like. If a key phrase with word like “free”, or ‘info’, in almost all cases do not convert. Why, because the users who use these particular key phrases are those who do not have the intention to buy or have a very little intention to buy. Though using ‘free’ in your offer can help most especially when building your email list ( gathering email), still this is not that powerful enough if you want to generate more conversions.
So, that’s it. Hope these keyword research tips can help you in your online business campaign. Stay updated.
